More than 100 boxers from 15 African countries will take part in the zone 3 Afrcan Boxing Championship at the Yaounde Multi-purpose Sports Complex from tomorrow to February 2, 2020. He male and female boxers will compete in eight different categories namely (52kg, 57kg, 63kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 91kg, and +91kg).
The raison d’être of the competition is to help prepare Cameroonian boxers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games African qualifiers in boxing scheduled to place in Dakar, Senegal. Two teams will Cameroon in the competition and technical staff of headed by Didier Ngatcha, called some boxers from the diaspora to enhance Cameroonian chances of qualification. Recently-crowned WBO Youth World Champion Wilfried Seyi in the 75kg category from Canada and Kamela Brandon from the USA constitute the Cameroonian diaspora to take part in the tournament.
The different bouts, according to the official programme will start daily from 5pm to 8pm to make sure Cameroonian boxers have the adequate home support. A access to the Yaounde Multi-purpose Sports Complex for the event is free.
