Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana is amongst six goalkeeper nominated for the 2019 goalkper of the year award. The nominees for the Yachine trophy were released on Monday by French magazine France Football with the Ajax shot stopper up for the award.He will be in the running against Germany’s Manuel Neuer, Brazilian duo Ederson Moraes and Alisson Becker and Poland’s Wojciech Szczesny.
André Onana was instrumental for Ajax of Amsterdam last season in their run to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. He was goalkeeper for the Indomitable Lions as they reached the round of 16 at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt earlier this year.
« I am delighted to be nominated amongst the best. It is an extra motivation to work even harder to remain at the top. Winning a trophy is always an objective for any player and I must admit I want to be crowned as best goalkeeper at one point in my career, » André Onana said after he was nominated.
The Yachine Trophy is at its first edition as France Football also released nominees for this year’s Ballon d’Or trophy which will be awarded at the end of the year.
