The Indomitable Lionesses have lost three places in the recently FIFA women’s world rankings published last Friday on the football body’s official website. The Lionesses dropped from the 46th position they were occupying to the 49th.
The girls of Coach Alain Djeumfa are still in the race to pick a ticket for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The Lionesses are to play the Shepolopolos of Zambia in March in the last round qualifiers.
A qualification for the Olympic Games for the Lionesses will boost their ranking in the next FIFA rankings to be released in the month of March next year.
The Indomitable Lionesses, had a quite 2019 year. They were ousted in the Women’s World Cup in France by England in the round of 16.
Despite losing three places, the Indomitable Lionesses are still ranked second in the African continent behind the Super Falcons of Nigeria. The reigning women’s African Champions equally dropped three places in the rankings from the 36-39th place.
The Banyana Banyana of South Africa maintained their 55th position and are Africa’s third best side. Cote d’Ivoire, who eliminated the Super Falcons in the qualifiers for the football event of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, climbed six places and are now 63rd in the global rankings. World Cup champions, the United States of America remain number one in the world, while former world champions Germany are number two.
