Cameroonian NBA star player of the Philadelphia 76ers have donated the sum of FCFA 299 million ($500,000 dollars) to help in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Embiid said his donation is to help the medical relief team of franchise survival and protection efforts in the community. The spread of the Covid-19 every sporting activity has been hiatus till further notice. The basketballer star equally promised to help the franchise workers who will suffer financial hardship in light of the franchise’s salary reductions.
In effect, Philadelphia 76ers owner, Josh Harris due to the outbreak of Covid-19, said he was going to reduce staff pay by 20 percent since the NBA season had been suspended. But he reversed his decision 24 hours later as many fans and media backlashed the decision.
Joel Embiid had planned to donate another unmentioned amount of money to those impacted by the pay cuts if the decision pushed through. “In these trying times, I’m proud of the Sixers organization for reversing course and “doing a 180”.
