Cameroonian defender Joel Matip on Friday signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2024.
“It’s a great feeling to be a longer part of the club. It’s really just a great feeling,” Matip told the club official website after signing the new deal.
Since his signing for the Reds, Matip, 29, has established himself as essential asset to Liverpool’s revival on European football.
His partnership with Virgil Van Dijk last season was an integral part of Liverpool’s march to their sixth European title.
Matip joined Liverpool in 2016 on a free transfer from German side FC Schalke 04, after making 194 appearances in the Bundesliga.
