Cameroonian keeper Andre Onana finished on the seventh position in the maiden Yachine Trophy at the Ballon D’or 2019. Nominated in his category alongside ten other world class keepers, the Cameroonian goalkeeper actually plying his trade with Dutch topflight club Ajax of Amsterdam was very vital for his club last season.
Andre Onana, 23, had an excellent 2018/2019 season with his club. Ajax Amsterdam reached the UEFA Champions League Semi-finals narrowly missing to reach the finals of the tourney, Ajax equally won the Dutch Eredivise Championship. However, his seventh position makes him indubitably Africa’s best goalkeeper.
Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker won the Yachine trophy. He played a crucial role in Liverpool’s Champions League success and started six times for Brazil in their triumphant Copa America campaign. He also won the Golden Glove in the Premier League last season with 21 clean sheets.
