President Ahmad Ahmad today starts a three-day (January13-15, 2020) visit to Cameroon. The raison d’être of the CAF president’s visit is to participate in some very important meetings with COCAN 20-21 members which will result to the taking of some very crucial decisions relating to the organisation of the Total CHAN 2020 and AFCON 2021 to be held in Cameroon.
Ahmad Ahmad’s visit in Cameroon may equally be an opportunity for CAF to give some clarifications on the probable date shifting of the AFCON 2021. With the increase of the number of countries participating in the AFCON from 16 to 24, the African Football body moved the AFCON date from January-February as was the initially the case initially, to June-July.
In November 2019, rumours circulated about the probable date shift of the 2021 football jamboree. The reason advanced was the deplorable weather conditions witnessed in Cameroon during the months of June and July.
The CAF boss coming too may be to validate the CHAN mascot “Tara” which was unveiled during a ceremony organised by COCAN members.
According to the press release of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education who doubles as president of the Organising Committee of the COCAN Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, a gala night will be organised by show Ahmad Ahmad the visuals of the Total CHAN 2020 on January 15, 2020.
President Ahmad Ahmad’s last visit in Cameroon was in October, 2018.
