Preparations for the 2020 African Football Championship (CHAN) is gaining steam as the competition day narrows. To make sure everything is in order, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education who is equally the president of the Local Organising Committee (CO-CAN 20-21), Pr Narcisse Mouelle Kombi visited the Yaounde stadiums over the weekend to evaluate the work done so far.
The sports boss first stop was at the Yaounde Omnisport stadium. Minister Mouelle Kombi noticed progress made in the refurbished conference hall and vestiaries. His next stop were the annexed stadiums wherein the minister frowned at the slow pace of work done in the annex 2 and 3.
From the Omnisport stadium, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi visited the Military stadium. Here, he admired the state of the turf and stands. The President of the COCAN ended his tour of stadiums at the Olembe Sports Complex. With the coming of new firm, Canadian company Magil, the 60,000 seater stadiums still has a lot of work to done as the turf which put on the field had been removed entirely.
However, the minister was given assurances that the work will be completed on the agreed date. The main reason for the minister’s visit to the different sporting infrastructure was because a CAF delegation is expected in the country in the days ahead for evaluation.
The 2020 CHAN is scheduled to be held in Cameroon from April 4-25, 2020. This is going to be the first time Cameroon is hosting the tournament. The competition will equally going to be a good test for Cameroon as they are host of the AFCON 2021.
