A seven-man delegation from the Confederation of African Football, CAF begins an inspection mission today in Cameroon at the various sites earmarked to host the 2020 African Nations Championship, CHAN 2020.
The delegation that arrived Yaounde yesterday is led by CAF’s first Vice President Constant Omari and will begin work today at the various sites in Yaoundé.
After Yaounde, the delegation will move to Douala where they will go through the various infrastructure in that part of the country before heading to Bafoussam in the West Region.
The inspection mission will round off in Garoua before the delegation leaves Cameroon on September 30.
The delegation is not expected to visit the South West region given that the infrastructure in that part of the country is ready.
Prior to today’s visit, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi presided over a follow-up meeting on Tuesday with the various administrations and partner companies concerned with preparations for the CHAN 2020.
Opening the meeting at the conference room of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi stressed on the context and stakes of the CAF mission in Cameroon. He called on the various stakeholders to be professional, coherent and relevant in their presentations to the CAF delegation.
The managing body of the CHAN 2020 tournament reiterated the recommendations arrived at during last week’s seminar to drill the various stakeholders on the harmonization of the various methodologies and strategies to present the CHAN 2020 and AFCON 2021 infrastructures to the various CAF delegations.
The CAF inspection mission comes two weeks after the Minister of Sports and Physical Education Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi had undertaken a visit to the Littoral, West and North Regions to ensure works were advancing at the required pace.
