The U-23 Indomitable Lions are one point away from clinching a semifinal spot in the ongoing U-23 African Nations Cup taking place in Egypt. The boys of Rigobert Song are going to play host Egypt on Thursday in their last group stage match.
Currently second with four points behind Egypt who have won their two matches and have already qualified for the semis.
The Lions put themselves on the driving seat for the semis thanks to a one nil victory over Mali on Monday night in their second outing after drawing (1-1) against Ghana in their first match. Goals from Franck junior Evina for Cameroon in their two outings have been vital. It’s their maiden participation in the tournament.
A qualification in the semifinals for the boys of Rigobert Song will put within a touching distance of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The Indomitable Lions won a gold medal in the tourney in 2000 in Sydney, Australia.
A semifinal qualification for the Lions is equally going to be an exploit considering its their maiden participation in the tournament.
