The French Women’s Division One football season effectively kicked-off last weekend. The league is female equivalent of the French Men’s Ligue 1.The championship is as usual, going to be dominated by the women’s clubs of Lyon and Paris. Some players of the Cameroon National team who were not shortlisted by Coach Alain Njeumfa recently for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Gamesqualifiers, were on the turf this weekend.
Jeannette Ngock who just signed for Guingamp,to join her teammate FalloneMeffometouTcheno beat Metz (2-0) in their season opener. EastherMayi Kith’s Montpellier recorded a similar result beating Stade Reims (2-0). Defender AurelleAwona was not as lucky as her teammates. Her club Dijon lost to Paris FC (3-1).
The victories Meffometou’s and NgockYango’sguinhamp and Mayi kith’s Montpellier have placed both clubs temporarily on the fourth and fifth position on the classification table.
The French Division One League is made up of 12 clubs and would have 22 playing days. This championship has been existing for more than four decades.
